Good news!

August 28, 2008

My sister-in-law & brother-in-law (Marshall’s brother) are expecting twins in April. :-)

I’m so excited I can barely contain myself!!!

Identification placed on your Loved Ones?

August 22, 2008
Do any of you put some sort of identification on your LO’s when you go out somewhere where there are a lot of people?  I am terrified to take them places by myself in fear of losing one of them. I usually only go if dh or my sister come along. I read in the paper that some moms place a sticker like a “hello my name is…” sticker & they write “mom’s cell number & the number” on it. Or they write the info on a plastic bracelet with a sharpie marker.  I have a friend who has a daughter who is almost 3 yrs old & we have been trying to get together with our dh’s but hers works on week-ends. She suggested that just us moms & the kids meet up at a park which is a few towns away.  I’ve taken my kids to a busy town park before with my sister & they each went in different directions.  (And near the swings & the flooded garden areas).  DH is concerned about this too.  How do you handle going out with 2 or more kids?  Do you go by yourself?  How do you keep an eye on them?  I’d appreciate any advice you can give.

Potty Question

We haven’t started potty training yet, but would like to be prepared. Do you or will you be buying one potty or two (or more)?  Do you buy one per child? Do you try to train both at the same time?  Can you recommend a good potty to buy?  I have no clue on how to handle any of this and would appreciate everybody’s advice.

Dummed out about lack of selection at Mom’s of Multiple sale

August 15, 2008

I belong to a great Mom’s of Multiple club.  I have met a lot of great women there and have made friends that will last a long time.

Twice a year, they have a sale.  Members only can sell their gently used clothing, toys, you name it that has to do with a child you can sell there.   Each year I have made out well, buying my girls toys and almost enough clothing to last the season for around $150 total.

Well this year I was REALLY disappointed.   Seems that each year the pickings get smaller and the clothing or toys are more worn down.  Also, I’m not sure if it is because the sizes are going up but the prices of alot of things were a lot as well.  A fleece sleeper that looks like more than one child used was $3.00.  I would not have paid more than $1.00 for it and even then I would have had to think about it.  Also where the tables used to be jammed pack, they were empty.

I did manage to get a few pretend toys and some dress up dresses for the girls as well as a few pairs of jeans, some tops and a few sleepers.  But I’m no where near done with their fall/winter clothes.  DH made me sell their coats from last year.  Of course they would have not fit Viviana or Olivia but Cora could have wore one of them.  But no he made me sell them all so as of right now, the girls still need a light fall jacket and a winter coat.

I HOPE to take them out more often this year so I know it will be needed.  Thanks for letting me vent.   At least with the sale over, I know what I need to look for in the stores.  Before the sale, I was afraid to pay retail for anything in hopes to get it cheaper at the sale.

Does anyone else here buy used for their kids?  Or does everyone by retail and just wait for a sale?

Shopping trips are just exhausting

August 12, 2008

How do you ladies do it?  Last night me and hubby plus the fab 3 went to the local mall.  I had to return some clothes and I wanted to get another pair of sneakers.  We took the single stroller and had the girls take turns in it.  We also had at one point all 3 of them out and running about.

I was exhausted but the great side was that they were too.  We put them to bed past their normal 8pm bedtime.  I think it was more like 9:30pm and they were out like a light.  They didn’t get up until about 8:30am this morning.

We used to use them as an alarm clock because once they were awake, they would make noises and wake us up.  Olivia loves to say.  Mami where are you? and after 3 times she tries Papi where are you? lol.  But NOW they are just sitting in their cribs waiting for us to come and get them.  Not sure I want to put them in big girl beds just yet.  I was going to wait until we started potty training which hasn’t happened yet.

Olivia will pee on the potty when we put her there and tap her belly and say pee pee.  She then says pee pee and trys to push something out.  9 times out of 10 she does something.  The one time she didn’t she said no pee pee.  lol.

Even though every night I go to bed exhausted, they are the highlight of my life.

Yes, yes, greetings from Asia!

Hi Ladies,

Sorry it has been ages, but things have been crazy and hectic. End of June the movers came, took our stuff, and off we went to my parents in Belgium for 6 weeks. The twins went to day care 3 days a week, Sofie to summer camp for 3 full weeks, Tobias was already back in Hong Kong. Our stuff arrived, things were organized and last Sunday we finally left. Got here on Monday morning, it’s hot and humid, raining a lot, and the apartment is nice. We re-organized a lot, sorted a lot of stuff, got our full time live in helper (hurray, hurray for no more cooking, cleaning, ironing and always available babysitting … all for $450 a month!) and are getting organized. It’s like expat paradise over here, or “expat for beginners”, foreigners all over the place (600 units in this building alone). We’re overlooking the ocean, the buidling has indoor and outdoor play area, swimming pool and we’re close to beaches and touristy Stanley (south Hong Kong Island).

The flight went well, Felix slept a lot, Maxine was hyper but good, Sofie was good as always. We had 6 seats instead of 5, so that was great. Jet lag was pretty much not existing, which was even better. We’re now 13 hours ahead of Central Time … so a difference between morning and evening!!!

The kids are adjusting well, we’ll see how it goes!

I need to catch up, but I’ll try now that I have more free time on my hands … I should be able to!

Off to the Country

August 6, 2008

Hubby and I are going to be house sitting for my parents while they go on a 5 day vacation to Branson, MO with my older two (6 and 3) for a final summer fling before school begins on the 15th. My parents live in the country and have chickens and lots of kitties so it ought to be a blast for Faith and Emma and some quiet time for me. Their place is very secluded so it will be relaxing getting out of town. It will be strange to go from 4 kids to 2 but SO NICE! I will miss them but it’s a great opportunity for bonding with Grandma and Grandpa.

Here’s a pic I got of Faith and Emma the other day. They were acting all sweet and helping eachother down and then they would say “Thank you” to eachother……….too cute!

Pictures of my girls.

I thought that I would post pictures of my girls since I always LOVE seeing others pictures.
